Purpose The purpose of an Improvement Workshop is to maximize the value of a feedback report or organizational assessment and to integrate these findings into the business or organization’s plans for improvement and future success.
Description Improvement Workshops utilize a proven, systematic four-step process to create a clear understanding of assessment results and to prioritize the opportunities
identified in the assessment.

• Review the description of Performance Excellence to ensure a common perspective that includes an understanding of key terms.

• Clarify specific comments in the feedback report within the context of the requirements of the Criteria for Performance Excellence to understand “WHAT” the Examiner or assessment team is saying.

• Determine “WHY” the Examiner or assessment team considered these opportunities to be important.

• Define and prioritize key opportunities.
Benefits Many organizations struggle to understand and use the feedback received from a comprehensive assessment, such as those contained in a Baldrige-based feedback report. By creating a common understanding of performance Excellence and then reviewing the assessment findings from that perspective, important decisions can be made on the key improvement projects that will continue progress toward the organizations’ Mission and Vision.

• Identify participants who represent all elements of the organization
• Have workshop participants and other key leaders read the feedback report/assessment results and identify findings that require clarifications prior to the workshop

Work Product Title Foundation of Leadership Training
Purpose The purpose of Foundations of Leadership Training is to clearly communicate the common attributes of leaders who have effectively created truly transformational cultures. By understanding the behaviors of leaders in these high performing organizations , assessment of your leaders can be conducted and the training needed to develop the desired attributes within your organization can be determined.
Description A one hour presentation based on research conducted into the common attributes of senior leaders in 10 Baldrige-winning organizations. While the focus of the research was on healthcare providers, the findings were consistent across all interviews, including manufacturing, service and governmental leaders.

The leadership styles and organizational cultures of excellent organizations have shifted steadily from a “transactional” to a “transformational” approach.

There are five key elements that support and drive this shift.

Work Product Title Baldridge Business Model Training
Purpose The purpose of Baldrige Business Model training is to deliver a clear understanding on this proven, holistic and non-prescriptive approach to leading a business or organization. The level of detail provided and interactive work included in the training can be adjusted to the level of maturity of the participants. Sessions can last from 2 hours to 2 days.
Description The Baldrige Business Model is based on 11 Core Values, the embedded beliefs and concepts found in high-performing organizations. The Criteria for Performance Excellence are detailed in seven integrated, interconnected categories. The model also contains a template for defining an organization’s structure and operating environment in an Organizational Profile.
Benefits Many organizations have defined their Mission and Vision but have not implemented a structured approach to leading the organization and/or developed systematic methods to drive future success. Adopting and effectively executing the
Baldrige Business Model will accomplish both these key success factors.

Work Product Title Operations Definition
Purpose The purpose of the Operations Definition project is to create a clear understanding of the primary high-level work flows (Value Streams) in an organization. In identifying the steps in these work systems, we will also determine the key work processes within the systems and the process-level metrics that can be used to measure performance and drive improvement.
Description To begin an Operations Definition project, we conduct a half-day workshop with all leadership team members and selected management representatives. These participants work in teams to identify the critical, high-level work flows and the key processes and activities that support them.

The session will be facilitated by CCP. Once the high-level work flows and related key processes have been identified, work teams led by leadership team members, who will be assigned as champions, will further define these work flows, identify all support processes and activities, and develop/refine metrics. Process owners from the management team will be determined for the key processes that support each work flow.

These Process Owners will then lead teams to develop the definition of their processes, including the identification and refinement of both in-process and outcome metrics.  The process definitions will in turn allow for the utilization of LEAN/Six Sigma (DMAIC) methods for further assessment and improvement of key processes in all areas of the organization from an
integrated, holistic perspective.
Benefits An Operations Definition project will create a comprehensive operational perspective that will allow the organization to increase the integration of work systems (Value Streams) and processes and the understanding of leadership, management, stakeholders and staff on how to improve performance in all areas.
Customer Commitments To receive maximum benefits from an Operations Definition project, a customer should:

• Ensure that needed resources are available.
• Provide technical support to work teams.
• Integrate this operational perspective into the SPP.
• Complete the specified outputs on schedule.
CCP Commitments To ensure the customer receives maximum value from the Operations Definition project, Calhoun Consulting Partners will:

• Develop preparation materials and prework assignments for Leadership Team members and other participants to complete prior to the initial session.
• Facilitate the initial workshop and ensure the proper use of quality tools and techniques to develop the specified outputs.
• Assist Work System Champions, as needed, as work flows (Value Streams) are defined.
• Assist in the development of materials related to work flows for use in the strategic planning process.
• Assist Work Process owners, as needed, as key processes and related metrics are defined.
• Lead the development and use of communication materials to relate this new operational perspective to key leaders, managers, stakeholders and staff.
