Work Product Title Process Improvement Solution
Purpose The purpose of the Process Improvement Solution is to improve performance on both the in-process and outcome measures of a process or Value Stream by identifying and addressing the root causes of poor performance. The process follows a systematic five-step (DMAIC) methodology that includes formal gate reviews at each stage to ensure success.
Description Process Improvement projects utilize a proven, five-step process to create a clear definition of the current process and to quantify the in-process and outcome performance levels achieved.

DEFINE - Developing or reviewing the purpose of the process, constructing a flowchart of the current method, creating a SIPOC, and verifying customer and stakeholder requirements.

MEASURE - Creating a current state Value Stream Map with complete results data that identify the process steps that need to be improved.

• ANALYZE - Apply appropriate analyses to determine the root causes of poor performance as a basis for developing refinements.

• IMPROVE - Implement the improvements that address the major causes of process inefficiency and ineffectiveness.

• CONTROL - Verify the levels on improvements achieved and institutionalize those that are proven to be effective.

Typically, cycle time and costs will be reduced, while the quality of the process outputs improves.
Customer Commitments To receive maximum benefits from an Improvement Workshop, a customer should:

• Identify a project leader, an executive sponsor and the work team members.

• Participants should plan to devote 10-20% of their time to the project.

• Make key staff available to provide input to the work team.

• Be prepared to change policies, procedures and dashboards, and train appropriate workforce members on these changes.

• Plan the project with the team leader and executive sponsor.

• Educate all participants on their roles.

• Facilitate the project kick-off meeting

• Lead development of key DEFINE stage deliverables

• Coach the team lead as the project moves forward

• Lead/Assist in the presentation of project achievements

• Lead/assist in the development of CONTROL stage changes and training on these new process elements.
Referrals Several past customers can be referred based on the process to be improved.
